John Hooper (North Ward)
Town Council Service 2019 – Present
Town & Community, Recreation & Amenities
John is a fifth generation Hooper family member born and raised in Henley. John went to school and has worked in Henley his entire life and he feels very lucky to still have all of his family in the town. Many people will know John’s name because of his riverside business, a fixture on the Thames scene in Henley.
John has always been involved with sports in the town, particularly football and rowing – once winning sports personality of the year for his services to sport and the town, an accolade he also received from our twin town Leichlingen in Germany. John is still very involved with Henley Town Football Club.
As a town councillor, John is actively involved in managing our riverside and sports facilities. He is also a valued member of the 357 Reading Road working group.
What issues do you most enjoy tackling as a town councillor?
I most enjoy working to improve our sports and recreational facilities in the town. I think we have a wonderful amount of leisure activities available in the town, but there’s always room for improvement!
What made you join HRG and stand for election?
I’ve known about HRG and the work they’ve done in the down for many years and I’ve known some of the other councillors, like Ken, for decades. I just want to help do my bit.
You’ve won many awards as a local treasure, what are you most proud of?
I was awarded the Town Medal for services to Henley, which was very lovely to receive. I’m also a Life President for AFC Henley Boys and Girls Football and I’m proud of being a supporter and helper at Henley Town F.C.
