Kellie Hinton (South Ward)
I have lived in Henley for most of my life, living for a short while in Tokyo, Reading and Spain. Prior to starting a family my background is in sales and finance. When moving back to Henley as a young adult I found it extremely difficult to find affordable housing and moved into Henley YMCA. After becoming a tenants representative and fundraising for the YMCA, I found a natural interest in getting involved with the local community.
After becoming a mother and settling down with my small family, I became part of HRG to have more of a say in the town I was raising my child in. Through my involvement with HRG, I was elected on to Henley Town Council in May 2011 and immediately got involved with the Henley Skate Park Initiative, a cause I still hold dear to my heart and will campaign for until it is built!
During my time as a councillor I have been active in the community, particularly Henley in Bloom, which I have chaired for three years. Leading Henley in Bloom to the national finals for three years and now on an international platform for Entente Florale has been a highlight of my time as a councillor. I have also enjoyed playing a role in the renovation of the toddler playground in Mill Meadows, the Heroes Return working group formed to celebrate the return of our Olympic heroes and many other community projects and groups such as The Living Advent Calendar, Henley Youth Centre, Henley YMCA, Henley Air Cadets and The River Thames Alliance.
Henley is a wonderful place to live and work and play, but maintaining this is hard work and something that HRG councillors are known for. I am proud to be HRG, roll my sleeves up and get my hands dirty working for the good of the town. Henley is special but it won’t be if it is left in the hands of a national party where our residents don’t have priority. I will spend the next four years helping to campaign for and secure affordable housing for young local people, focusing on maintaining the high standard Henley in Bloom is known for and making sure the skate park gets built!
