To the Editor of the Henley Standard
Dear Sir
I have over the past few weeks canvassed many households in Henley, and one topic that comes up time and again is the affordability of housing in Henley, and the unavailability of lower cost/social housing.
I believe people who have a strong connection to Henley and the area, should be able to stay and keep the community of Henley thriving.
As chair of the Henley Town Council’s Planning and Neighbourhood Plan Committee’s, I am actively pursuing with land owners the idea of Community Land Trusts. This is where kind generous and society minded land owners “gift” land at a cheap rate to enable ‘truly affordable’ rental homes to be built. These homes would not be able to be sold, they would be rental in perpetuity.
I think this would be a great way to invest some of Henley’s money in the future.
While writing, could I take this opportunity, through your paper, to thank all the residents that have given up their time in helping in the review of the Joint Henley and Harpsden Neighbourhood Plan, it has been very much appreciated.
Yours sincerely
Councillor Ken Arlett
Chairman Henley Town Council Planning and Neighbourhood Planning Committees
