Thank you Lorraine

To the Editor of the Henley Standard

Sir (if I may)

So Henley residents are to be deprived of the commitment and dedication of Councillor Lorraine Hillier, someone who has selflessly devoted herself to the town for nearly 20 years.

How come?  Well, ...

Clean air – time to act

To the Editor of the Henley Standard

Dear Editor

The recent Peter Brett traffic study suggested morning peak hour HGV traffic volumes had increased over 100% over the past four years.

As Henley Standard reported, this will further exacerbate air pollution.

Yet HGVs are only one cause of air pollution. ...

To the Editor of the Henley Standard

Dear Sir

Having been born and brought up in Henley, I am well aware of the wonderful sporting facilities that we have in the town. For example, there are two separate football clubs in Henley – Henley Town and Henley AFC for the under 18. I am Chair of the Henley ...

Protect funding of Henley schools

To the Editor of the Henley Standard

Dear Editor

Like other parents with children in Henley schools, we are most concerned about the continuing funding cuts in all of our Henley schools.

We are told that Gillotts is facing a funding shortage of £160,000 this year because of capital funding cuts, the ...

Dear Editor,

One of Henley’s great strengths is its Marketplace. The regular markets are a backbone, encouraging residents and visitors to come to our town centre.

But the Marketplace’s real colour comes to the fore when special events are held there and ...

A lot of people were already queuing at bus stops on Saturday to take advantage of free rides for the day on our splendid ecobus. HRG Cllr Donna Crook was on board from the start, handing out copies of the new timetable. Passengers on the 10:05 to Townlands Hospital, however, ...

Successful ecobus service extended!

Love the May Fayre? Join the fun!

By |

To the Editor of the Henley Standard Sir Spring is nearly upon us, it is getting warmer, the sun is shining, the sky blue, and the rhododendron, azaleas, daffs and tulips are popping up to say hello. I love spring and the colours and aromas. But, most of all, I love Henley’s May Fayre! And we are back with a bang in the Market Place this year, Monday 6th May from 12 to 5 pm. It will be a fabulous fun family day kicking off with the maypole dance at midday followed by musicians, dancers, performers, and other ‘local’ acts on stage throughout the day. There will be some amazing traditional stalls selling everything from cupcakes to kids’ toys plus vintage fun fair games, face painting, Jackanory, tug of war and so much more. We are kindly supported by Henley Town Council and sponsored by Wilkins (Henley) Ltd, Penny & Sinclair, Soha and Hot Gossip for which we are incredibly thankful and will be raising funds for the Henley Stroke Club. But, with all this happening, we do need a bit more help than last year. Will you be one of a handful of ‘helpers’ and come on board the May Fayre ship to help make this May Fayre bigger and better than last year? It would be good if we had support from all Parties in the town’s council and of course anybody else who would like to help out. The more the merrier. If you’d like to get involved, please email me at henleymayfair@yahoo.com or leave a message at the Town Hall. Yours faithfully Cllr. Sarah Miller Chair, Events Committee Henley Town Council read more
